Preparing for birth often focuses on logistics. Choosing a hospital. Packing a bag. Writing a birth plan.
But birth preparation is also about something deeper. Learning how to work with your body, regulate your nervous system, and build the physical and mental capacity to move through labor.
Our new 4-Week Birth Preparation Series at Austin Yoga Lounge is designed to support that process.
This small group prenatal series blends movement, breathwork, and practical birth education so you can approach labor with greater confidence and trust in your body.
If you're currently pregnant and thinking about how to prepare for birth, here’s what to expect from the series. Many students first discover our prenatal yoga classes in Austin before joining deeper birth preparation programs like this series.
What Is the Birth Preparation Series?
This four-week series combines prenatal movement, nervous system regulation tools, and practical birth education in a supportive small group setting.
Each 90-minute session includes guided prenatal movement, breath techniques that can be used during labor, and conversations about the physical and emotional aspects of birth.
The goal is not to script your birth experience, but to help you develop tools that allow you to adapt to whatever unfolds.
You’ll also leave each week with simple practices you can continue at home, including movement exercises, breathwork, journaling prompts, and grounding rituals that support your preparation throughout pregnancy.
Who Is This Series For?
This series is designed for pregnant students in their second or third trimester who want a deeper and more intentional approach to birth preparation.
It is especially helpful for those who:
• Want to feel more confident about labor
• Are looking for birth preparation beyond a traditional hospital class
• Want to understand how movement and positioning support labor
• Feel nervous or unsure about the birth process
• Want to connect with other expecting mothers in Austin
Classes are designed specifically for pregnant students, and all movement is appropriate for pregnancy.

What You’ll Learn
By the end of the series, you’ll walk away with practical tools that support both the physical and emotional experience of birth.

Learn how hormones, the nervous system, and your environment influence labor progression.
-
Explore prenatal movement patterns that create space in the pelvis and support optimal baby positioning.
-
Practice breathing techniques that can help you stay grounded and conserve energy during labor.
-
Develop tools for working with sensation and maintaining focus as labor intensifies.
-
Reflect on the emotional and identity shifts that often accompany becoming a mother.
Why Movement (and Consistency) Matters When Preparing for Birth
Research continues to show that movement during pregnancy supports both birth outcomes and postpartum recovery.
Learning pregnancy-specific movement patterns can help:
• Improve pelvic mobility and comfort
• Support optimal baby positioning
• Build stamina for labor
• Reduce common pregnancy aches and pains
When movement is combined with breathwork and nervous system regulation, it also helps your body practice shifting into the relaxed, oxytocin-driven state that supports labor.
